Meta Knight .: Star Gazing

Description

Well I finished yet another Meta Knight pic! :D

A few things to notice here are that I have finally found my style of outlining. Before, I would outline all on one layer first with a brush, then colour on top. Then I changed to still using a brush but colouring with many layers on top, one layer per colour, and then putting the outline on top again to 'sandwich' the colouring. THen, I switched to still brush outlines but colouring underneath. Then came brush outlining with a little pen tool. And finally, I found my style.

I know do one body part at a time. What I mean is, for example, I'm focusing on the shoe. First I pen tool the outline and stroke it on a locked transparency layer called outline. Then, on a layer behind that one, I, still with the pen tool, go right click>fill path and fill it with my desired base colour. Then, I go to make selection and save the selection so I can come back to it if need be later. THn within that selection, I do shading, highlighting, etc. Then finally, on a layer behind that one, I fill the selection with white. It does not show up on the drawing itself but is particularly useful especially when I make backgrounds black because when highlighting, often I use the smudge tool and pull a bit of white away from the selection, thus making a 'hole', so to speak, in the colour layer. So by filling in white, it saves me a lot of work later but I wouldn't recommend it if the background will be just white (though mine rarely are; hence this step). The very last thing I do is colour over the outliner layers with locked transparency so the outline is coloured. It usually just gives an added touch to artwork that I like :D.

Anyways, all that aside, I also used a different shading style from normal, but don't worry, I'm not switching styles. This only happened pretty much because I did it and then was like "OOPS!" ^^; but moreso because Meta Knight is being illuminated from starlight and moonlight, which are generally softer than sunlight, hence the reason why there are no clear shading lines seeable.

Wow that was a long comment! Anyways, hope you like this pic! :D
