Warpstar's Tutorial Tracker

Sun Feb 25, 2007, 5:36 PM
Hello!

Lately, I've noticed a lot of people asking if there are any good tutorials around for colouring and whatnot. So, I decided to put together a little tracker of tutorials. The links below are the best tutorials I've ever seen and are very near and dear to my heart because they started my photoshop life and give me a boost in CG. I'm not saying use them word for word; deviate as you wish, for that is what makes your style. I hardly ever look at these now. But it does give you a second perspective on your methods. So check them out if you have time!

I've categorized them as best as I could to provide easy browsing. ;D

NOTE: I did not make these tutorials nor am I claiming to have. I'm merely linking to some tutorials by others that i found helpful.

Colouring Styles

1. The Ultimate Colouring Guide
This tutorial provides a complete guide to cell shading. However, it also covers preparing the outline and other important factors, so even if you like soft shading, check it out. I honestly believe this is the best colouring tutorial I've ever seen online; even if you're inclined to do soft-shading (like me), you can still follow this tutorial and do some smudge-softening at the end.
NOTE: Works with any photoshop version; tried and true.

Specifics

1. Colouring Anime Hair
Oh, how I love this tutorial. it's easy to follow along and the result is stunning. A perfect guide to colouring anime hair, which to some is quite intimidating.

2. Colouring Anime Eyes
Do you like how I colour my eyes? This is the tutorial that started me off. It is beautifully simple yet works wonders. ^^

3. Digital Fur
Have an animal character but don't want to spend ages of time scoping out fur fibers? This tutorial is very simple and is very easy to modify as well. Because the fur texture is on layers above the actual colour, you can go back and change the base colour whenever you wish.

SOS

Are you stuck really badly with a photoshop question and can't find help? These forums are perfect for that. You can post any graphics question you like and expect an answer within a day or two.

1. Photoshop 911
The name says it all; the link I provided leads to the photoshop emergency room where no question is too noobish.

2. Tutorial FX
Another great forum; though this is loaded with tutorials on a wide variety of subjects. However, you can post and ask questions here too.

And that's all the links I feel like posting for now! But to anyone who is wondering on a method, you can ask me to find you a tutorial. I've gotten quite linked up with tutorials over the net - 645 bookmarks and growing. ;D The ones I posted deal specifically with CG but you can ask me to find you a tutorial about anything; I have a lot of bookmarked tutorials.

Till next time,

End of 5-Minute Challenge! + Winrar Requests

Tue Feb 6, 2007, 1:50 PM
UPDATE: Well I decided instead of using of extra space at the bottom of this journal I'll list your request right beside your name in the list of 5-minute photoshoppers! Also, this will help the fact that I am extremely forgetful and so I might've promised a pic to some peoples though they didn't do my challenge. I said in my journal I was gonna do requests for the winrars of my challenge so if I do it for others that will defeat the purpose. That said I might do your request cuz you're my friends but not until ALL the requests for the winrars are done, and I hope that's understandable.

'Member I'm still waiting for your requests, winrars!

ps I do know how to spell "winners" properly but winrars is such a better way plus me and the store winners have got ISSUES.

=====

Well so I'm closing that thing I did thank you to all who did it you rock seriously.

I'll make a tribute to the people who did it and also if you did it you can get a request on me!!
Much as I'd like to make it ruleless I'm not someone who can draw anything under the blue moon, though I wish I was.

Request Rules

- All requests will be drawn and CG'd unless you don't want colour
- I can't draw real life people or real life animals, only chibis and cartoons, but other than that I can take any request.
- Please give me a referance pic!
- You can, if you want, request me to colour one of your sketches, and you can specify cell shading/soft shading

And that's it for the request things so I'll be waiting.

5-minute Photoshop/MS Paint Challenge!

Sun Feb 4, 2007, 11:40 AM
UPDATE: YUSS! I got ten! Thanks to all who did this, i'll make a tribute to you very soon.
As suggested by TAC and Revor I'm gonna put a link to each person's 5-minute thing!

=================

Hello!

Okay I have a challenge for you all! It's pretty fun and easy and it only takes 5 minutes. Well six if you want to upload it but whatever.

Okay so I want to see what you guys can make in photoshop or MS Paint... in five minutes. So open photoshop/MS paint and start drawing/scribbling/rendering but you have to stop in five minutes, no longer. So that means that its not anything fancy or amazing but... just see what you can come up with. ;D

Also, try not to think about what you will do before the five minutes, just open your program and start with no plan for added ludicracy and awesomeness.

So what can you come up with? Here's mine (photoshop) which I didn't upload here on DA becuase it's nothing special.

[link]

But that's the thing! No one who does this will have anything special cuz it only takes 5 minutes!

Try it, it'll be fun. :D Anyone who does it will have their name mentioned here. Also, if you do it can you post a comment with the link? So... uh... honour the below names! Bah I don't know. But do it, it's fun. :)

1000 PAGEVIEWS!!!!

Mon Jan 15, 2007, 2:58 PM
YESS! I finally made it to the big 1000!!!

To commemorate this, I made a special video to show you all, but DA is not letting me upload it! If anyone know how to upload AVIs here, please tell me. But in the meantime, I uploaded it to photobucket! So click on the link to see it! :D :D

[link]

I'm really, really happy with how it turned out. And a HUUUGEEE thanks to all my DA friends, cuz I couldn't have done it without you! I really hope you like the video - a special behind the scenes! :w00t:

1000... YEAHHHHH!!! :D :D

Cheers!~

EDIT: Hey, guys, can I just request one thing? if you read this, please comment! I wanna know what you think! Also, please excuse the fact the video is sorta pixelated. Photobucket compressed it a lot to be able to upload it and quality was lost, but I'll give it a rest. Also, in the unfortunate event that my power went off and my video file was lost, I can't upload it anywhere witha larger file allowance. But that's allright, right? I mean it's still special. :D
